What Does This Mean?
Slang for low-barrier, often low-budget cooperative indie games built around playing with a group of friends, such as Lethal Company, Content Warning, R.E.P.O. and Peak. The -slop suffix began as a jab, and some developers and players now use the word descriptively.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""Four of us, one proximity chat and a new friendslop game on Friday.""
LORE & ORIGIN
Wikipedia says the term came from a tweet describing friend-farming as an indie trend, with the genre traced back to Among Us (2018), and that the 2025 release of Peak sharply raised its use. Critics have called it a dismissive label for cash-ins; some developers embrace it, others find the careless connotation inaccurate.
