EMOTE-ONLY— ORIGIN, MEANING & USAGE

Emote-Only A Twitch chat mode, switched on by a streamer or moderator, in which viewers can post only emotes and no ordinary text.

Origin:A Twitch chat-moderation setting introduced in 2016 and toggled with the /emoteonly and /emoteonlyoff commands. Streamers use it to calm a chaotic or toxic chat, to block spoilers, or as a novelty event or channel-point reward. The phrase also spread informally as a joke about a chat reduced to spam of emotes.
