flopou Brazilian Portuguese internet slang, past tense (third person) of "flopar": something "flopou" when it failed or fell flat, typically with few views, likes, comments or shares. It can be said of a post, an album, a song, a show or a release, as in "o clipe flopou". The opposite is "bombar" or "hype".

Origin:Verb formed from the English "to flop" (to fail) with the Portuguese -ar ending. Diário do Nordeste (6 Feb 2022) explains the term while contributors to Big Brother Brasil 22 used it of the season itself. The page does not say when Brazilians began using it, and dictionary accounts of its origin are not confirmed. The infinitive is covered by the existing "flopar" entry; this one is the past-tense form used to announce a failure.
