Webring Meaning?
4.0BRAINROT SCOREWebring A group of websites on a shared theme joined in a loop by navigation links, so that each member site points to the next and previous site in the ring.
Origin:The idea of chaining related pages into a ring was tried in 1994 with the EUROPa experiment at Imperial College London, and Sage Weil, then a teenager, turned it into a central script that tracked ring members automatically; the company WebRing was formed in June 1995 (some sources date the script to 1994 and others to 1995). WebRing was sold to Starseed in 1997, Starseed was acquired by GeoCities in 1998 and GeoCities by Yahoo! in early 1999. Yahoo! relaunched the service in September 2000 and ended its support in April 2001, and the original site later disappeared. Better search engines made rings less necessary as a way to find sites. Webrings are now remembered as a feature of the 1990s personal web, and small independent sites have revived the idea as a hand-made alternative to algorithmic discovery.
