What Is Fruit Fly Brain Simulations?
7.8BRAINROT SCOREFruit Fly Brain Simulations A viral trend where developers and hobbyists take a complete connectome (a full neural wiring map) of a fruit fly's brain, run it through a spiking-neuron simulator, and wire its simulated sensory/motor neurons into games, trading bots, and virtual environments — producing split-screen clips of a wireframe insect brain "playing" Minecraft, Doom, or VR rhythm games.
Origin:The trend traces to a real scientific release: on September 3, 2026, HHMI Janelia's FlyEM team, the Cambridge Connectomics Group, and Google Research published MaleCNS v1.0, a complete map of an adult male fruit fly's central nervous system (roughly 166,000 neurons and about 125 million synapses), building on earlier work like FlyWire's female fruit fly connectome. Because the dataset was released openly and could be simulated by anyone, YouTuber Ro0oney kicked off the meme on September 7, 2026 with a video titled "I Put A Fly's Conscious Brain into Minecraft," and it broke into wider circulation on September 8, 2026 when X user @_lyraaaa_ posted a clip captioned "the fly brain can play beat saber," showing the simulated connectome slicing blocks in the VR rhythm game Beat Saber.
A specific viral figure — that the Beat Saber post reached roughly 22 million views — circulates widely in recaps of the trend, but it could not be independently confirmed through available search results; verifiable numbers found were far smaller (for example, Ro0oney's original Minecraft video reportedly passed 241,000 views and 10,000 likes within three days). The ~22M figure should be treated as an unverified, widely-repeated claim rather than a confirmed statistic. The trend also spun off a gentler variant nicknamed "fruit fly heaven," where builders let the simulated fly wander an idle, reward-only environment instead of being piped into a demanding game.

Aura Impact:+2 Aura (correctly citing MaleCNS/FlyWire and flagging the ~22M view figure as unverified) / -3 Aura (repeating the 22 million view number as confirmed fact)
EXAMPLE USAGE
"Someone hooked the fruit fly connectome up to a trading bot now — we've gone from Beat Saber to the fly brain day-trading, this timeline is unwell."
