REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"Everyone in the group chat was just typing 2333 after that joke."

LORE & ORIGIN

According to Moegirl, 233 comes from emoticon number 233 on the Mop (猫扑) forum, an image of someone laughing while pounding the ground. It then spread through QQ and other forums, and on to danmaku video sites and Weibo. Extra 3s lengthen or intensify the laugh, and with overuse it can also carry a sarcastic tone. The related Mop-born 874 became less used. No dated first use was found; the Moegirl account is community-sourced. Closely related to the existing 233 entry.
