LORE & ORIGIN

Numeral slang from Chinese gaming and live-stream culture. Chinese media report that 666 is a homophone of 溜 (smooth, adept) and began in a League of Legends match, when viewers typed it to praise a spectacular play, and that it ranked first on Douyu's annual list of top danmu (bullet comments) for three years in a row. Additional sixes only add emphasis. The exact first use is not documented.
