What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ FANDOM ]

Fandom slang for the status of being a big-name fan, a prominent and widely known figure in fan communities; it is formed from BNF plus the suffix -dom.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

""After ten years of running the convention, she was quietly part of BNFdom.""

LORE & ORIGIN

Wiktionary lists dated uses going back to 1953 in the science-fiction fanzine Hyphen, and again in 1971 and 1994 writing about fandom politics, so the word predates the web. It is the state or condition that the older term BNF (big name fan) describes.
