What Does This Mean?
The French-language side of BookTok, the book-and-reading community on TikTok tagged #BookTok: creators film reading recommendations, reactions and book hauls, and TikTok's recommendation feed connects readers with shared tastes. In France the label also covers publishers and bookshops that now run TikTok accounts and display titles made popular there.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"Ce roman, je l'ai vu partout sur BookTok FR, je l'ai acheté sans réfléchir."
LORE & ORIGIN
French Wikipedia describes BookTok as a sub-community of TikTok centred on books, taking off in 2020 after bookstagrammers had popularised book reviews on Instagram around 2019, and notes that Hachette, Pocket Jeunesse and Gallimard opened TikTok accounts and that TikTok became a partner of the Salon du livre de Paris in 2023. A French creator interview dated 8 November 2022 explains how the algorithm links readers and how publishers send free books in exchange for appearances in videos. A separate Quebec community, BookTok Québec, also exists. The exact spelling « booktok FR » as a label is a recent usage; no dated source found yet for the label itself.
