What Does This Mean?
Brazilian Portuguese gaming term for the last and strongest boss of a game or stage, the Portuguese-language form of "final boss". Players also use it figuratively for the hardest obstacle in any situation, such as an exam or a difficult relative: "o boss final da semana é a prova de cálculo".
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""Passei a fase inteira e agora falta só o boss final", disse o jogador."
LORE & ORIGIN
Mixes English "boss" with Portuguese "final"; the fully Portuguese equivalent is "chefe final" and the English "final boss" is also used. Portuguese Wikipedia's article on game bosses uses "chefe final" for the last opponent, and the Showmetech gamer dictionary (January 2022) defines "Boss (Chefão)" as the enemy that ends the game or a stage. The figurative use follows the same joke pattern as the English "final boss". Recent term in this form; no dated source found yet. Related existing entries are "raid-boss" and "world-boss".
