What Does This Mean?
A landmark creepypasta written entirely as a forum-thread discussion, in which posters "remember" and compare disturbing details from a nonexistent 1970s children's TV show called Candle Cove — a format that helped establish collective false memory and nostalgia-horror as a creepypasta genre staple.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"The comment section doing the collective 'wait, I remember this too' bit is giving major Candle Cove energy."
LORE & ORIGIN
Candle Cove is a work of fiction written by Kris Straub, who first uploaded it to the horror fiction site Ichor Falls on March 15, 2009, styled as a message-board thread between users discussing their shared memories of a creepy children's show that never actually existed. Straub has said he was partly inspired by an Onion article joking about nightmares from the real 1970s kids' show "Lidsville." The story was reposted to the Creepypasta website on June 5, 2009, where it drew over 600 comments and a 9.2/10 rating, after which YouTube "recreations" of the fictional show and discussion threads on 4chan and Reddit spread the legend further later that year.
Candle Cove is entirely fictional creative writing, not a documented real event or real television program; its lasting influence came from popularizing the "collaborative false-memory" structure, which was later adapted into the TV series "Channel Zero: Candle Cove."
