What Does This Mean?
A forecasted term for the jarring shock fandoms experience when an official plot reveal abruptly invalidates a long-held fan theory or established emotional read on a character, forcing a sudden re-processing of everything that came before.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"That finale gave the whole fandom canon whiplash, three seasons of theories just got thrown out in one scene."
LORE & ORIGIN
A predictive term blending 'canon' with 'whiplash,' anticipating a name for this specific reaction as franchises increasingly deploy late-stage twists that retroactively reframe earlier content.
