What Does This Mean?
Literally "to dig up"; on French forums, to reply to a long-dead topic so that it comes back to the top of the list.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"J'ai déterré un vieux topic de 2009 pour savoir si quelqu'un y joue encore."
LORE & ORIGIN
French forum slang using the everyday verb « déterrer » (to dig up) for bringing an old, inactive topic back to life with a new reply. Observed on Jeuxvideo.com forums, for example a 2008 post saying the author is digging up an old dusty topic, and replies reduced to « Déterrage ! » posted years after the original thread. The first appearance is unknown. This entry covers the verb and the act of doing it; the noun form is the separate entry « déterrage de topic », and the existing « déterrage » entry covers the general concept.
