What Does 'Fanxiang Fan'ersai' Mean?

Brainrot Score: 6.0OBSERVED
[ SLANG ][ MEME ][ CHINESE INTERNET ]

"Reverse Versailles" — using the exaggerated humblebrag structure of "Versailles literature" (凡尔赛文学) but pointed at yourself sarcastically, listing misfortunes or flaws in the same theatrical, look-how-unbothered-I-am tone normally used to brag.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

""我家小区安静得很,安静到我一个人都能听见自己加班到几点。"——反向凡尔赛本赛。"

LORE & ORIGIN

A direct offshoot of "Versailles literature" (凡尔赛文学), the viral 2020 Weibo genre of humblebragging in an elaborately understated tone (named after the opulence of the Palace of Versailles). "Reverse Versailles" flips the same performative structure to self-deprecate instead of brag, and has remained a reusable joke template on Chinese social media since shortly after the original format took off, rather than fading as a one-off.
