What Does This Mean?
A chat mode on live-streaming platforms such as Twitch in which only people who follow the channel, sometimes for a minimum time, can post messages. Streamers switch it on to slow spam and raids, and viewers see a prompt to follow before they can type.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""Chat is follower-only tonight, so hit follow if you want to say hi.""
LORE & ORIGIN
Wikipedia's Twitch article says follower-only and emote-only chat can be enabled from the Creator Dashboard's Quick Actions, and that in September 2021 Twitch added tools letting streamers limit chat to viewers with a confirmed phone number or email, or who had followed for a minimum time, amid bot-run hate raids that Twitch later sued two people over. Search-result guides say the minimum follow time can be set from none up to three months. Twitch's own help page was blank when opened, so those menu details stay unconfirmed. The existing entries on follower-only giveaways and follower count cover related uses.
