What Does This Mean?
The person or topic that becomes the focus of Twitter for a day, usually because of a widely disliked tweet or article. It comes from the axiom that each day one user is the main character, and the goal is never to be it.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""Congratulations on being the main character of Twitter today; hopefully tomorrow someone else has it worse.""
LORE & ORIGIN
The axiom was posted by @maplecocaine on January 2, 2019, and drew over 21,000 retweets and 94,000 likes. Early applications include March and August 2019 and September 2020, and by 2020 people used the phrase without quoting the original tweet.
