What Does This Mean?
A TV Tropes label for a character whose toughness or fearsome reputation is built up by fans, jokes and memes, often far beyond what the character actually does on screen. The reputation lives in the fandom retelling rather than in the story itself.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""He appears for ten seconds in the whole series, but the fandom made him a memetic badass.""
LORE & ORIGIN
Trope name from the TV Tropes wiki (founded 2004, per Wikipedia). A frequently cited real-person parallel is the Chuck Norris facts joke format, which Wikipedia says appeared on the internet in early 2005 on the Something Awful forums. No dated first use of the label was found.
