What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ ENGLISH DAILY ]

Onomatopoeic internet slang for an animal sticking its tongue out, usually to lick something such as its nose.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"The cat gave a tiny mlem after finishing his dinner."

LORE & ORIGIN

From DoggoLingo, the playful pet-speak that formed in online communities in the early-to-mid 2010s. The exact coinage date is unknown, with an April 23, 2014 Imgur post as the earliest known example; Dictionary.com instead cites an Imgur and Reddit meme from February 2015 as first recorded use. Wiktionary lists the etymology as onomatopoeia. Some writers use mlem for a small tongue lick and blep for a fuller tongue extension, others use them interchangeably.
