What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ ENGLISH DAILY ]

Plural of moot: people on a social platform who follow you and whom you follow back, often treated as online friends.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"Shout out to my moots who always like the dumb posts."

LORE & ORIGIN

Respelled shortening of "mutual followers". Dictionary.com dates the phrase "mutual follower" to Twitter in 2007 and the older contraction "mufo" to around 2010, and says the slang "moots" spread widely among K-pop fans around 2017. This is the plural form of the existing term moot, listed as its own entry; it is the same concept (the plural is the most common form in use), not a different meaning.
