LORE & ORIGIN

AO3 and Fanlore pages, as summarised in search results, say "No Fandom" is a canonical fandom tag created for wranglers to store character, relationship and additional tags not tied to a fandom, that Fanlore counted over 13,400 canonical No Fandom freeforms in January 2025, and that canonizing new ones was paused for about a decade before a reported lift in March 2024. Wikipedia's AO3 article describes tag wranglers as volunteers who connect synonymous tags.
