What Does This Mean?
[ SLANG ][ FANDOM ][ NOUN ]
A romantic pairing between a fan's original character (OC) and an official character from the source material — a distinct fanfiction and fan-art category from pairings made entirely of official characters.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"Half of AO3's tags for this fandom are OC X Canon pairings, it's basically its own genre at this point."
LORE & ORIGIN
Named using standard fanfiction shorthand ('OC' for original character, 'canon' for official material, 'x' marking a pairing), distinguishing this category from ship content built entirely from existing characters.
