What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ ENGLISH DAILY ]

Imageboard slang for a post whose ID number ends in four identical digits, such as 4444, treated as a lucky result and often posted as a small celebration. It extends "dubs" (two identical digits) and "trips" (three).

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"He refreshed for an hour, and when quads finally landed on his reply the whole thread cheered."

LORE & ORIGIN

Wikipedia describes the 4chan habit of chasing post numbers that end in a special sequence, called GETs, and notes that GETs lost much of their meaning as post volume grew. Wiktionary and Urban Dictionary do not record this sense of quads, and no dated first use is documented. The sense follows the same pattern as dubs and checked digits, which have their own entries.
