Quarantine

[ REDDIT ][ MODERATION ][ PLATFORM POLICY ]

FORCE: Attention EconomyUNIVERSE: Reddit CultureCLUSTER: Reddit Structural Vocabulary

A Reddit moderation measure, short of a ban, that hides a subreddit behind a warning prompt, keeps it out of feeds such as r/all, and removes its ad revenue and public user count.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

""The subreddit got quarantined, so now every visit starts with a warning screen.""

LORE & ORIGIN

Wikipedia dates Reddit's quarantine policy to August 2015, under Steve Huffman, for communities with highly offensive or upsetting content; subreddits have been able to appeal a quarantine since 2018. Examples include r/European (2016) and r/NoNewNormal (August 2021).
