What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

Brazilian Portuguese gamer verb meaning to get furious during a game and vent angrily, often by insulting other players, as in "ele ficou rageando no chat". It is the verb form of the English "rage" and is related to, but not the same as, leaving a match in a "ragequit".

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

""Ele perdeu três partidas seguidas e ficou rageando no chat de voz", escreveu o jogador."

LORE & ORIGIN

Adapts English gamer "rage" (extreme anger in response to a video game, described by Wikipedia as "gamer rage" or "raging") with the Portuguese -ar ending. The Mais Esports League of Legends glossary defines the entry "Rage" as getting angry during a match and starting to offend other players, and lists "RageQuit" separately for players who disconnect after getting angry. No Portuguese source opened defines the verb "ragear" itself, and no dated first use is documented.
