What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ ENGLISH DAILY ]

A curated list of recommended fan works, such as fanfics, fan videos or art, gathered in one place, often by fandom, pairing or theme.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"She keeps a reclist of the best slow-burn fics from the fandom."

LORE & ORIGIN

In fandom, a rec is a recommendation made by a third party who has read, watched or seen a fan work and wants other fans to find it; Fanlore notes that recs are usually positive, though they may include warnings or a rating, and that a more critical discussion is called a review. A rec list (also spelled reclist) is a set of such recommendations gathered on one page, commonly organised by fandom, category such as slash, gen or het, or subject such as crack or AU. Fanlore adds that in large fandoms, where following all new fics is impractical, readers may choose to read mostly from rec lists. The date of the first use of the term is not documented.
