What Does This Mean?
A reply meant to publicly put someone down or embarrass them in front of other users, as opposed to a quote post that does the same from the poster's own timeline. It is the reply-thread version of "dunking on" someone.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""His reply dunk got more likes than the original tweet.""
LORE & ORIGIN
Wiktionary lists "dunk on" as an informal verb meaning to outdo someone in a humiliating way, and the entry for dunk has an Internet slang verb sense, to put down on social media, usually with "on". Neither page mentions "reply dunk", and Wikipedia's Quote tweet article, which says Twitter began testing quote posting in 2014, does not cover dunking. The exact phrase has no documented first use in the sources opened; it is a label formed from "dunk" and "reply", so the entry is weak.
