What Does This Mean?
A fandom slogan, a pun on "live and let live", asking fans to enjoy the fictional pairings (ships) they like without attacking people who like different ones. It is invoked in ship wars and discourse about "anti" fans who criticise other people's ships.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""I don't even like that pairing, but ship and let ship; there's no reason to dogpile them.""
LORE & ORIGIN
Wiktionary labels it a slogan used by pro-shipping fans and an alteration of "live and let live", and cites Rukmini Pande in Feminist Media Histories (2024, pp. 114-115), who describes ignoring "Ship and Let Ship" etiquette as a way anti fans break fandom norms. Wikipedia's Shipping article documents the kind of conflict the slogan answers (the Harmony Wars from 1999-2000; Avatar: The Last Airbender pairing fights in 2005-2008) but does not mention the phrase itself. No coiner or first use is documented.
