XBrainrotTHE INTERESTING WAY TO UNDERSTAND INTERNET CULTURE

What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ ENGLISH DAILY ]

A fictional, unspecified product used online as the stock example of something people fight over without knowing or caring what it is. Saying one is "pro-skub" or "anti-skub" mocks pointless tribal arguments.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"The argument over tabs versus spaces turned into a pro-skub versus anti-skub war within an hour."

LORE & ORIGIN

Wiktionary and Know Your Meme both trace skub to a Perry Bible Fellowship comic in which characters wearing "Pro Skub" and "Anti Skub" shirts brawl over a small tub of substance. Wiktionary cites internet uses from August 2006 onward, and Know Your Meme dates the meme to 2006, noting that imageboard communities used it as shorthand for flame wars.
