What Does This Mean?
The activity of creating or running splogs (spam blogs): blogs stuffed with scraped, auto-generated or thin text that exist to promote other sites, lift their search ranking or earn from ads and sold links. It is the verb form of "splog" and is used mostly in SEO and blogging discussions.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"Search engines spent years filtering out splogging operations that copied other people's articles to host ads."
LORE & ORIGIN
Splogging is the activity-form of splog, a blend of spam and blog. Wikipedia describes a spam blog as a blog used to promote affiliated sites, raise search rankings or sell links and ads, and says the term splog was popularized around mid August 2005 when Mark Cuban used it publicly. No source located here documents the form "splogging" itself, so no first use of that exact word is established. Urban Dictionary also lists an unrelated joke sense (a space vlog), which is not the meaning used here.
