What Does This Mean?
A text style that draws a horizontal line through words. It marks text as deleted, wrong or retracted, and online it doubles as a joke format for showing a thought the writer corrected or pretended to take back.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""Great work team, strikethrough: please stop pinging me on weekends.""
LORE & ORIGIN
Wikipedia traces the style to medieval manuscripts and notes that WordStar added strikeout in version 3.0 in 1982. HTML 4.01 (1999) deprecated the old strike tags in favour of a deletion tag, and GitHub-flavoured Markdown uses double tildes while WhatsApp and Google Chat use single tildes. Combining Unicode characters can also produce the effect in plain text.
