What Does This Mean?
A paid YouTube feature that lets viewers buy a highlighted message in a livestream or premiere chat. The message stands out in colour and stays pinned at the top of the chat for a time that depends on the amount paid. Streamers often read Super Chats aloud.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""A five-dollar Super Chat asked the streamer to say hi to the whole class.""
LORE & ORIGIN
YouTube's help page says Super Chat is a way for viewers to buy chat messages that stand out, that it is one way creators earn through the YouTube Partner Program, that the buyer's profile picture can stay at the top of the feed for a time that depends on the amount, and that creators receive 70 percent of the revenue confirmed by Google. No launch date was found in the pages opened. The existing entries on donation goals and donation text-to-speech cover similar livestream donation features.
