[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

French electro dance and fashion phenomenon that peaked around 2006 to 2007, known for fast arm and hand movements and a look of neon colours, tight clothing and styled hair. The name also designated the club nights where it began, and it is now often recalled with nostalgia or irony.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"Sur cette vieille vidéo, ils dansent la tecktonik avec des brassards fluo."

LORE & ORIGIN

French Wikipedia states that « Tecktonik » first named a type of party at the Metropolis club in Rungis, near Paris, where « Tecktonik Killer » nights in 2002 promoted hardstyle and jumpstyle. One organiser described the name as a pun on « tectonique des plaques » (plate tectonics). The dance spread through YouTube and Dailymotion videos and the 2007 Techno Parade, and the trend faded by early 2009 after the Metropolis parties ended in December 2008. The article also mentions a revival on TikTok from 2025 to 2026.
