What Does This Mean?
Buenos Aires slang for a young person of working-class suburbs associated with a particular style of dress and dancing, linked to an urban tribe that appeared in 2008 and to the group Los Wachiturros.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"In 2011 every party in Buenos Aires ended with the wachiturros dance."
LORE & ORIGIN
A compound of "wachi" (a diminutive derived from the lunfardo word "guacho") and "turro" (lunfardo for someone foolish or shameless, adopted as a self-label by working-class Buenos Aires youth). Spanish Wikipedia dates the urban tribe to 2008. The cumbia and reggaeton group Los Wachiturros formed in early 2011, was active until 2013 and reunited in May 2019; its video "Tírate un paso" passed 10 million views by January 2012, and "Wachiturros" was reported as the second most-searched term on Google in Argentina in 2011. The word is often used mockingly by outsiders.
