KIDFIC— ORIGIN, MEANING & USAGE

Kidfic Fandom slang for a fanfiction centred on a character, and possibly their partner(s), raising one or more children; also used for that kind of fanfiction as a group. It is a family-focused story category.

Origin:Wiktionary defines it as a fan fiction that centres on a character raising children, from "kid" + "fic", and lists related terms babyfic and parentlock. Its cited uses begin on Usenet: RhiaRamsay on alt.tv.x-files.creative in 1999, Starbuck031992 in 2000 and Rotem Shahar in 2002. These show the word in use by 1999 but not that it was coined then. Fanlore returned HTTP 403.
First Seen:1999 (earliest citation on Wiktionary, Usenet alt.tv.x-files.creative; not necessarily the coinage)

CURTAIN FIC— ORIGIN, MEANING & USAGE

Curtain Fic Fan fiction about ordinary domestic life, typically a couple shopping for curtains and building a home together, with little or no drama.

Origin:Fanlore defines curtainfic as fan fiction focused on domestic tranquility, taking its name from the image of a romantic pairing "shopping for curtains", literally or figuratively. It is often fluff with little or no drama, is usually romantic, and is sometimes treated as a slash-specific trope, though the term has also been applied to gen fic. It overlaps with domestic fic and with kidfic, and a subset set in contemporary times is called Ikea fic, in which characters shop for furniture and struggle to assemble it. Fanlore notes the first use of the idea was probably in a zine and gives 1998 as the earliest online example it found. Critics sometimes call such stories out of character when they feature characters who show little interest in domesticity in canon.
First Seen:Possibly earlier in zines; earliest online example documented from 1998
Peak Era:Late 1990s onward
Aura Impact:+1 Aura (Using It Correctly In Context)

EXAMPLE USAGE

"It is pure curtain fic: two hours in a furniture store and one argument about a sofa."
