What Does This Mean?
Portuguese word, in Brazilian gamer and online-community use, for a player or account that has been banned from a game or platform for breaking its rules, most often for cheating or third-party software. A ban can be temporary (a suspension) or permanent, and the account is usually not restored once cheating is confirmed. Players also use it as a quip, as in "foi banido", for someone removed from a server or chat.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""Descobriram o hack dele e a conta foi banida de vez, ficou banido do jogo.""
LORE & ORIGIN
Past participle of the verb "banir" (to banish); Wiktionary defines "banido" as someone expelled or excluded, with synonyms such as desterrado and proscrito. The gaming sense follows the English "banned". Critical Hits (13 Jan 2020) reports that after a Garena wave against cheaters many Free Fire players saw the message that the account was suspended, and treats suspended and banned as the same thing. Free Fire Mania (13 Mar 2022) explains that bans can be temporary or permanent, that cheaters cannot have the account unbanned, and that players who believe the ban was a mistake can file a request with support. The pages opened do not date the slang use itself.
