LORE & ORIGIN
The Content Authenticity Initiative was founded in November 2019 by Adobe, The New York Times and Twitter. The Coalition for Content Provenance and Authenticity (C2PA), a standards body under the Joint Development Foundation, was established on 22 February 2021 and publishes the open specification, which records origin and edit history using cryptographic signatures. Adobe first released Content Credentials in its Creative Cloud apps in late 2021. The contentcredentials.org site presents the effort, whose participants include Adobe, Microsoft, Google, Meta, OpenAI, Sony, the BBC and others. "Content Credentials" is the user-facing name for provenance data built on C2PA; see also C2PA.
