What Does This Mean?
ドパオジ (dopaoji) is Japanese net slang combining ドーパミン (dopamine) and おじさん (middle-aged man): the middle-aged-man version of ドパガキ, meaning an older man who constantly seeks strong stimulation from short videos, social media and similar content. It is mostly used jokingly or self-deprecatingly and is not a medical term; the female counterpart is ドパオバ.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""Scrolling reels at 2 a.m. again; fully a ドパオジ now.""
LORE & ORIGIN
Sumutabi and Zonebrain both describe ドパオジ (and ドパオバ) as adult versions derived from ドパガキ, which is traced to X posts from late 2024. A Hatena Anonymous Diary entry dated 5 October 2026 records ドパオジ as a freshly spreading derivative, with only a handful of search hits at that time. Sources do not name who first used it.
