What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

Korean internet slang, short for 극도로 혐오 ("extreme disgust"), for strong aversion to something, such as an insect, a sight or a behaviour. It is blunt and informal, often typed as a one-word reaction, and some wikis note that its suffix 혐 is also used in derogatory group labels.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"A cockroach dropped from the ceiling and she typed just one word: "극혐"."

LORE & ORIGIN

극혐 attaches 극 ("extreme") to 혐 from 혐오 ("disgust, hatred"). A 2018 Newsis article defines it as a clipping of 극도로 혐오한다 and says it had become so common online and offline that people no longer ask what it means; the article places it in a wider discussion of hate-related coinages and argues such words had become normalised. A Korean wiki snippet adds that the 혐 suffix also appears in terms like 남혐 and 여혐, which it calls derogatory. No dated first use was found.
