What Does This Mean?

保守age

Brainrot Score: 3.8 ⓘOBSERVED
[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

Posting a short message, often just 保守 ("maintenance"), to a quiet thread using age, so that the thread is pushed up the board's list and does not drop off through inactivity (dat落ち). A variant, 保守sage, posts the same kind of message without pushing the thread up.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"This thread is about to fall off the board, so: 保守age."

LORE & ORIGIN

Combines 保守 (maintenance, here meaning keeping a thread alive) with age, the 2channel-style posting method that raises a thread to the top of the list (sage is the opposite). An explanation of 保守age appears in a Q&A post dated September 2005, so the usage is documented by then; the earliest use is not documented. The posts are typically short and carry no other content.
