What Does This Mean?
インプレゾンビ (impure zombie, "impression zombie") is Japanese slang for accounts on X that post meaningless or unrelated replies, such as emoji-only or foreign-language replies, under viral posts to earn impressions and, through the platform's revenue sharing, money. Many are paid blue-check accounts and are reported to be run by automation rather than people.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""The reply section under that post is full of インプレゾンビ with emoji-only comments.""
LORE & ORIGIN
ITmedia NEWS (1 December 2023) reported the wave of reply zombies and impression zombies chasing X's Creator Ads Revenue Sharing, which paid a share of ad revenue shown in reply sections to eligible accounts. Impress Watch (26 March 2026) reported that X announced a plan to weight revenue toward the poster's home region, which would cut incentives for overseas replies under Japanese posts, and that Elon Musk paused it within hours.
