What Does This Mean?

[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

Korean fandom term for a fan who follows many different idols, groups or fields at once rather than a single one. In idol fandoms it usually means someone who likes several groups. The related terms 겸덕 (fan of several things) and 순덕 (fan of only one) describe the same spectrum.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"She calls herself a "잡덕" because her phone holds playlists for five different groups."

LORE & ORIGIN

Compound of 잡 (miscellaneous, as in 잡다) and 덕, the fan element from 덕후. A K-pop fandom glossary defines it as being a fan of many idols at once and notes that this is looked on unfavourably in Korean fandom culture. The date of first use is not documented in the sources found.
