What Does This Mean?
[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]
Literally "turtle reply"; a reply posted long after the message it answers, as opposed to 即レス (an immediate reply).
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"Sorry for the very late reply, I only saw this today."
LORE & ORIGIN
Forum/BBS slang combining 亀 (turtle, a byword for slowness) with レス (reply post), the counterpart of 即レス (instant reply); Digital Daijisen lists 遅レス and 亀レス alongside 即レス. It is typically used as an apology ("sorry for the late reply"), and on X the analogue 亀リプ is used. It is associated with 2channel-style boards, but no first-use date was found.
