What Does This Mean?
クーデレ (kūdere) is a Japanese anime and manga character type who seems cool, calm and hard to approach, but becomes affectionate as the relationship develops. The word joins クール (cool) with デレデレ (lovestruck), mirroring ツンデレ.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""She barely speaks in class, but she quietly packs his lunch every day, a textbook クーデレ.""
LORE & ORIGIN
Japanese Wikipedia explains that クーデレ was formed from クール plus the shortened デレデレ, and calls it a derivative of ツンデレ. It cites 現代用語の基礎知識 2007 for the related term 素直クール, named as the opposite of ツンデレ, and says クーデレ was first another name for 素直クール before its meaning shifted and it came to be treated as distinct. No exact date of coinage is given. The existing tsundere entry is the parent type; this entry is the calm-but-affectionate one.
