What Does This Mean?

무과금

Brainrot Score: 4.2 ⓘOBSERVED
[ SLANG ][ MULTILINGUAL NATIVE ]

Korean gaming term for playing a game without spending any real money, and for a player who does so (무과금 유저). It is the zero point of the spending scale that also has 소과금 (small spender) and 핵과금 (heavy spender).

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"The guide is aimed at 무과금 players who want to clear the early chapters without buying anything."

LORE & ORIGIN

무과금 combines 무- ("no") with 과금, the game-industry word for in-game charging or paid purchases. A 2017 post on the Korean game site Inven addresses a guide to 무과금 and 소자본 (low-budget) players of an online game and contrasts them with spending players, using 소과금 for small spending. No earlier dated use was checked, and the term is common in Korean mobile and online game discussion.
