What Does This Mean?
Gamer term used in Brazilian Portuguese (also "fora do meta"): a pick, build or strategy outside the currently dominant approach (the "meta"), typically a less popular option used to surprise opponents. It is not a judgement on strength: off-meta choices can be inventive or simply weak.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
""Ele subiu de rank com um build off meta que ninguém esperava.""
LORE & ORIGIN
From the English "off-meta", the opposite of "meta" (short for metagame, the currently dominant strategy). Wikipedia's Metagame article describes playing a relatively unknown strategy to catch opponents off guard as often called off-meta, and flags that sentence as needing a better source. No date is documented by that page.
