Ping Spam

[ SLANG ][ DISCORD ][ MODERATION ]

FORCE: Attention EconomyUNIVERSE: DiscordCLUSTER: Chat Moderation

Repeatedly mentioning users, a role, or @everyone on Discord so that people receive a stream of notifications. Servers limit it with moderation rules that cap the number of mentions in one message.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

""Ping spam in the announcements channel got the account muted within a minute.""

LORE & ORIGIN

A report on Discord's planned AutoMod mention filter describes mention spam, also called ping spam, as users repeatedly tagging people, @everyone, or a role, and says it drives members out of communities. The filter lets moderators cap mentions per message from 1 to 50, and Discord's own AutoMod has a Block Mention Spam rule.
