Scrollbait

[ SLANG ][ SOCIAL MEDIA ][ NOUN ]

FORCE: Attention EconomyUNIVERSE: Social MediaCLUSTER: Engagement Bait

Content specifically designed to interrupt a scrolling thumb and force a stop — a jarring first frame, a confusing caption — regardless of whether the content itself delivers on the interruption.

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

"The thumbnail was total scrollbait, stopped my thumb for nothing, the actual video was empty."

LORE & ORIGIN

Modeled on 'clickbait' but adapted for the scroll-based mechanics of short-form feeds, where the entire battle is winning the first half-second before a thumb swipes past.
