What Does This Mean?
Korean K-pop fandom term for a coordinated, scheduled push in which fans stream a singer's songs at the same time to raise their position on music charts. It is usually organized around a comeback, a member's birthday or a group anniversary.
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"The fan club announced a "스밍총공" for midnight on the group's anniversary and shared a guide to setting up playlists."
LORE & ORIGIN
Compound of 스밍 (short for streaming) and 총공 (short for 총공격, all-out attack). Korean press in mid-2020 reported that Melon planned to move from one-hour to 24-hour cumulative counting, a change expected to reduce the chart impact of such campaigns, and a 2021 report said repeat-streaming campaigns reappeared after the chart was reworked again. Critics say the campaigns distort charts, while supporters distinguish them from paid bulk purchasing. The first use of the word is not documented in the sources found.
