What Does This Mean?

テンプレ

Brainrot Score: 4.6 ⓘOBSERVED

テンプレ (tenpure) is the clipped form of テンプレート (template). On Japanese forums and social media it means a ready-made text pasted again and again, such as the standard opening post of a thread with rules and FAQs, or a stock reply. It also describes anything formulaic or predictable, as in テンプレ展開 (a stock plot).

REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE

""Before posting a question, read the テンプレ at the top of the thread.""

LORE & ORIGIN

Weblio says テンプレ is short for テンプレート, whose root is a ruler board with cut-out shapes that gave the idea of a mold producing a fixed form. It adds that on electronic bulletin boards テンプレ means long pre-written posts that users copy and partly edit, and cites Digital Daijisen for the sense of conventional, dull or cliche. No coiner or first use is named.
