What Does This Mean?
Literally "next thread"; a new thread opened to continue a discussion once the current one is full or finished. A thread on 2channel-style boards holds at most 1,000 posts. The thread before it is called 前スレ ("previous thread").
REAL-WORLD EXAMPLE
"Post 980 has passed, so someone should make the 次スレ."
LORE & ORIGIN
Japanese forum slang: 次 (next) plus スレ, the common short form of スレッド (thread). Reference sources explain that, because a thread cannot take more than 1,000 posts, a continuation thread is created, usually by copying the template of links and notes from the top of the old thread. Threads often name who will create it, as in "the next thread will be made by whoever posts >>950". The first use is not documented.
